Business Baddies

Business Ethics - the principles and standards that determine whether the actions of a business organization are right or wrong.

Scary thought: The food you eat at restaurants could be cooked in this sort of dark, dirty oil, which poses multiple health risks to consumers.

OMG!!! Look at those dark dirty oil. This may just be what restaurants use to cook your food. Recycled cooking oil - good for the bottom-line of restaurants, bad for your health. Is it ethical of businesses to compromise the health of consumers?

And you have Malaysian cabbies!!! Infamous for fleecing off passengers. Don't go by the meter. Just ask some of our TARUC students who take cabs outside the campus at the main gate. Not all are like that but many are. And they give foreign tourists a bad impression of Malaysia.

Forget about our little restaurants and small time taxi drivers. How about big multinational corporations? You won't need me to introduce the logo in the picture. It sells a lot of shoes but was also a global symbol of abusive labor practices.

Other multinationals involved in brushes with ethical issues which you may google for more information includes KFC, Walmart, and McDonald's. There are a host of many others.

So, what is business ethics all about? It is about the rights and wrongs of doing business. Ethical practices would include reasonable prices, fair wages, safe working environment for employees. Unethical practices would be exorbitant prices, child labor, distorted advertising, polluting the environment, etc. To put it in a nutshell, business ethics means doing business with a human touch.
